Donate Securities

Donating publicly-traded stock and securities is a tax-smart way to support Hope House Guelph.

Donating securities directly avoids tax on capital gains, maximizes the return on your investment, and protects the tax credits for use against other taxable income.

You will also receive a tax receipt for the full appreciated value of a donation of publicly traded stock or securities, and the transfer is easy and fast.

A GIFT IN YOUR WILL CAN REFLECT YOUR VALUES - FAR INTO THE FUTURE

Susan Tough began volunteering at Hope House shortly after moving with her husband to Guelph during the pandemic. She was searching for a cause that would align with her values – and she found it here.

“I really liked the values of compassion, kindness and trying to make a difference in people’s lives. The opposite of poverty is community really resonated with me, because it’s not only a lack of financial resources that makes people poor, it’s the absence of community.”

Susan now works on staff, keeping our Food Market stocked and organized. She is a monthly donor. And she and her husband have included a gift in their will to Hope House.

For Susan, this was a natural progression after witnessing the daily impact of our work.

“It’s amazing to watch the transformation in people’s stress levels as we provide them with something as simple as food. I can’t imagine being hungry and not having a solution. I see us giving hope every day. And now I know that this legacy of caring and compassion will carry on after I’m gone.”

Susan says that not only was the process of creating the gift simple, but it felt good.

“It’s a very warm feeling knowing that you’ve taken care of what you need to take care of - your loved ones - and you’re able to take care of your community too.”

She wanted to share this message to allow others to consider this kind of gift, one that has no impact on your lifestyle today.
